Create Your First Trigger

Stream triggers are rules that define what happens when events occur on your channel — like a new follower, a subscription, or a cheer. Let's create a simple follow alert.

Step 1: Open Stream Triggers​

Navigate to Stream Triggers in the sidebar (under the Streaming section).

Step 2: Create a New Trigger​

  1. Click the Create Trigger button
  2. Select the event type — choose New Follow
  3. Give your trigger a name (e.g., "Follow Alert")

Step 3: Configure the Alert​

Once your trigger is created, you can customize how the alert looks and sounds:

  • Image — Select an image from your library to display when someone follows
  • Sound — Choose an audio clip to play with the alert
  • Text — Customize the alert message (you can use variables like the follower's username)
  • Duration — How long the alert stays on screen
  • Animation — Choose an entrance animation (Fade, Slide, Zoom, Roll, Bloom)

Step 4: Test It​

Use the test button to preview your alert. This sends a test event so you can see exactly how it will look on your overlay.

Tips​

  • Start simple — Get a basic follow alert working, then customize from there
  • Match your brand — Use images and sounds that fit your stream's personality
  • Check your overlay — Triggers need an Alert Box widget in your overlay to display (we'll set that up next)
